Privacy Policy
What Brite Lotus collects, why, and what happens to it.

Defined Terms
This is a legal document, and you should read it carefully.
When the first letter of a word is capitalized in this document, it has a special and specific meaning. We call those words “Defined Terms,” because we’re going to give you a definition of what each term means as used in this document.
- Company – CTG Entertainment, LLC, doing business as Brite Lotus
- Website – BriteLotus.com
- Privacy Officer – Christian Brescia
When you see a plural or a plural possessive pronoun, such as “We” and “Our,” that refers to the Company.
Collecting and Using Your Personal Information
Most actions you take on the Website will relay certain information about you to the Company.
Information Collection Categories
Contact Information
When you fill out our “Contact” form or make a purchase with Us, we collect the information you provide so we can communicate with you and/or ship you the physical/digital products you have requested or purchased.
This might include your name, mailing address, phone number, and email address.
If you’ve given us your physical address, we sometimes send promotional gifts, like stickers.
If you send us a social media handle — in a message, a form, or a reply — we keep it with the rest of what you have told us so we can recognize you and reply in the right place. We do not go looking through your accounts, and we do not build a picture of you from them. A public profile is public, so anyone can open it; we are telling you plainly that it is not something we do as a matter of course. Whatever is visible on your profile is governed by the privacy settings in your social media provider’s own settings menu, not by us.
Financial Information
When you make a purchase on the Website, your payment is handled by a third-party payment processor. Your card number never reaches us. You type it into the processor's form, it goes to them, and we never see or store it. What comes back to us is the fact that a payment succeeded, along with the billing name and address needed to fulfil the order and keep the records the law requires.
Profile Information
When you fill out our contact form or make a purchase, we create a profile for you so we can identify you. If you purchase a digital product, then we use your information to provide you with access to your purchase.
As you navigate the Website, your computer relays information to us that we use to optimize the Website, improve user experience, and make strategic business decisions about our products and services.
If — and only if — you agree to it in the cookie notice, we use Google Analytics, which tells us which pages are opened, roughly how long people stay, and which site or search sent them here. It is how we work out which articles are worth writing more of and where people get stuck. We do not record your screen, your mouse movements, or your individual clicks, and we do not measure advertising, because there is none. If you choose Essentials only, or never answer the notice, none of this is collected at all. The Cookies section lists exactly what is set, and your cookie choice at the foot of this page lets you change your answer at any time.
Analytics of this kind may collect information about your computer specifications, internet connection, and IP address. Your IP address is a unique identifier that tells other computers the path to take to communicate with your device. That kind of data can communicate private information about you. For example, connecting to the internet via a coffee shop’s wifi tells the analytics tool that you are at the coffee shop when you access the Website. Smart devices like your smartphone can tell when another smart device is nearby. If a nearby device has given permission to advertisers to access its location, then those advertisers can deduce that you are also near that location. We don't collect your location information, but accessing our Website while near other devices might allow advertisers to deduce your location, and they could send you targeted ads. Also, your computer’s specifications could communicate what kind of device you prefer to use or what you prioritize in your devices.
How Long We Keep Your Information
We keep your Contact Information only as long as necessary for the purposes outlined in this Privacy Policy. We retain Contact Information as required by law, if applicable. We retain Contact Information necessary to enforce legal agreements and resolve disputes.
We do not keep your financial information. There is nothing to buy on this website today; when there is, payment will be handled by a third-party processor who is named in this policy before it takes a single payment, and your card details will go to them rather than to us. That processor may retain your information for their own purposes, and their privacy policy will govern that.
We keep your Profile Information as long as necessary for the purposes outlined in this Privacy Policy.
Aside from the Contact Information we keep for legal purposes, you can ask us to delete collected information. To do that, contact the Privacy Officer listed at the end of this Privacy Policy.
Cookies
A cookie is a small note your browser keeps for a site. It is how a site remembers something between one page and the next — that you have already answered a question, for instance, so it stops asking.
Brite Lotus uses cookies for two things: making the site work, and — only if you agree to it — counting which pages people find useful. No advertising cookies, no selling or handing your details to data brokers, and no following you around the rest of the internet.
You will see our own products promoted on this site, and sometimes in our emails. You may also see a placement someone has paid for — a sponsorship or an endorsement. When that happens it will say Sponsored, plainly, next to the thing itself, so you never have to wonder whether you are reading an opinion or an advertisement.
Either way, what is on the page is the same for everyone who opens it. It is not chosen for you, it is not based on anything we know about you, and it sets no cookie and tracks nothing. A sponsor buys a space on the page. It does not buy anything about you, it does not learn that you were here, and it gets no ability to follow you afterwards. Showing something is not the same as letting an advertising network watch you, and we do not do the second one.
The cookies this site sets
| Name | What it does | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|
blsess |
Carries the security token that proves a form you submitted came from this site rather than somewhere else, and remembers small practical things for the length of your visit — such as which email provider to point you at after you sign up. It holds no name, no address and no identifier that means anything outside this site. It is set as soon as you open a page that has a form on it, which includes the cookie notice itself. | Until you close your browser |
bl_cookies |
Remembers which button you pressed on the cookie notice, so the notice stops appearing. It stores one word — your answer — and nothing else. | 180 days |
Both are what the law calls strictly necessary: one makes the forms work safely, the other records your own choice about cookies. Neither can be switched off without breaking the thing it is there for, which is why the notice does not offer to.
What we ask permission for
If you press Allow all, the site loads Google Analytics. It records which pages are opened, roughly how long people stay, and which site or search sent them here. It is how we work out which of the Learning Oasis is worth writing more of. Ad personalization and Google’s cross-site signals are switched off in our configuration, and none of it is used to advertise to you or sold to anyone.
If you press Essentials only, or simply ignore the notice, Analytics is never loaded and your visit is not counted anywhere.
That is the whole list. The signup form is protected by checks that run on our own server and set nothing in your browser, so there is no bot-detection service reading this page and no third party involved in proving you are a person.
Videos
Episodes on this site embed video from YouTube. Nothing from YouTube loads until you press play: what you see before that is a still image, and the player itself is only requested when you ask for it. When it does load, it comes from YouTube’s privacy-enhanced youtube-nocookie.com address. Once you press play you are, at that moment, also a visitor of YouTube, and their terms apply to what happens next.
Changing your mind
Your answer is kept in one cookie for 180 days, and you can change it whenever you like. Your cookie choice, at the foot of this page, shows what you have chosen and lets you switch straight away — nothing to clear, and it takes effect immediately. Every page on this site has a Cookie settings link in its footer that brings you here.
Clearing this site’s cookies in your browser also resets your answer, and the notice will appear again so you can answer it differently. You can instruct your browser to refuse cookies from this site entirely: the pages will still render, but the forms will not work, because the token that protects them has nowhere to live.
Do Not Track
Some browsers can send a “Do Not Track” or Global Privacy Control signal. There is no agreed standard for what a site should do with one, so the reliable control here is the cookie notice itself: press Essentials only and nothing optional is loaded, whatever your browser is signalling.
Email Marketing
Email is the backbone of most online marketing in the twenty-first century. Your email is valuable to us, and your privacy is valuable to you. We take care to ensure that your email and other data are used in a respectful manner, and we keep your email confidential. We do not sell or in any way share your email in exchange for remuneration. Your email address is not shared with anyone. Not with sponsors, not with affiliates, not with partners on a joint project, not with anyone who asks. If that ever has to change, you will be told before it does and asked first — see Advertising and Sponsorship for what we do instead.
Company’s emails will comply with applicable laws, including the CAN-SPAM Act. Each email will clearly identify that it is from the Company along with a place for you to unsubscribe from our email list. Occasionally, the technological systems we rely on to remove you from our email list may fail to unsubscribe you. If you continue receiving unwanted emails, please contact the Privacy Officer.
Unsubscribing from Company’s email list will remove you from our promotional and informational emails about podcasts, blog posts, and other resources we may have to share. However, you may still receive information about programs, services, or products you have bought from Company.
Information Disclosure
Company will disclose your personal information only when necessary to provide services, programs, or products to you or when necessary to work with third parties like lawyers or collection agencies to enforce these terms or any other terms between you and Company. We may also disclose your information when we are otherwise legally required to do so.
Securing Your Information
We make our best efforts to ensure the security of your information using industry standards and reasonable methods. We rely on reputable and reliable third-party vendors to collect basic information. If you work with us in a one-on-one capacity, we may collect additional personal information from you so that we can provide you with computer, phone, tablet, or device preparation, supervision, support, training, etc. For this data, we use a different, reputable third-party platform designed for these purposes.
Who Exactly Sees Your Information?
Analytics
We use one company for analytics, and only with your agreement:
Google is a third party, and once Analytics is loaded Google receives information about your visit under its own policies rather than ours. Google Signals and ads personalization are both switched off in our configuration — the two settings that would otherwise let Google tie your visit here to your signed-in Google account, recognize you across other websites, or use anything from this site to target advertising at you. We see only aggregated reports about this site. We never give Google your name, your email address, or anything else you have typed into a form here, and we do not use any of it to advertise to you.
If you choose “Essentials only,” or never answer the cookie notice, Analytics is not loaded and none of this happens.
Advertising
Nobody. This site runs no advertising cookies, no pixels, and no retargeting, so no advertising company receives anything about your visit. What could change about that, and what could not, is set out in Advertising and Sponsorship.
Marketing
Some links in our emails and on this site are affiliate links: if you buy something after following one, we may be paid a commission at no extra cost to you. These are consumer technology and software companies — retailers, hosting and software providers, mobile carriers, and similar — chosen because they make something we would recommend anyway.
An affiliate link does not hand anyone your email address. What happens is ordinary: you click a link, you arrive on their website, and from that point their own privacy policy governs what they collect. We never sell or share your details with them.
Payment
When you make a purchase on the Website, your financial information is transmitted to a third-party payment processor. The payment processor has their own privacy policy, which you should read before making payments.
We use reputable payment processors who adhere to the standards set by the Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council. We never see or store your card details ourselves.
There is nothing to buy on this website today. When a shop opens, the processor handling it will be named here before it takes a single payment.
Your California Rights
Brite Lotus is a small business, and the law described below may not reach one of our size. We honor these rights for California residents regardless of whether it obliges us to — if you make one of these requests, treat it as binding on us.
The California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) is a law that protects consumers residing in California. The policy in this section applies only to California residents.
The CCPA gives you
- The right to know about the personal information a business collects about you and how it is used and shared;
- The right to delete personal information collected from you (with some exceptions);
- The right to opt-out of the sale or sharing of you personal information; and
- The right to non-discrimination for exercising your CCPA rights.
- The right to correct inaccurate personal information that a business has about You; and
- The right to limit the use and disclosure of sensitive personal information collected about you
To exercise your CCPA rights, contact the Privacy Officer. Your identity must be verified before we release, alter, or delete your personal information. Since anonymized data about you can’t be identified, we won’t be able to delete that information.
You can ask us for details about the information we have collected about you. We operate exclusively online. We do not sell or share your personal information.
If you think we have inaccurate or incomplete information about who you are, please contact the Privacy Officer.
We won’t deny you service or access to our Website just because you live in California or exercise your rights under the CCPA. However, if you don’t provide us with the personal or payment information necessary to complete a sale, we won’t be able to complete the transaction.
We don’t collect sensitive personal information like your social security number, financial account information, precise geolocation data, or genetic data. If you choose to work with us one-on-one, we may need your sensitive personal information to complete our services. If we do, we don’t use it for any other purpose.
If you wish to have your personal information deleted, contact the Privacy Officer.
You can learn more about your privacy rights as a California resident by visiting https://cppa.ca.gov/
Your European Union Rights
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is a law that governs information and privacy rights for people within the European Union. The policy in this section only applies to European Union residents.
We will retain any information you choose to provide to us until the earlier of: (a) you asking us to delete the information, (b) our decision to cease using our existing data providers, or (c) the Company decides that the value in retaining the data is outweighed by the costs of retaining it.
You have the right to request access to your data that the Company stores and the rights to either rectify or erase your personal data. You have the right to seek restrictions on the processing of your data. You have the right to object to the processing of your data and the right to the portability of your data. To the extent that you provided consent to the Company’s processing of your personal data, you have the right to withdraw that consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of processing based upon consent that occurred prior to your withdrawal of consent. You have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority that has jurisdiction over issues related to the General Data Protection Regulation.
We require only the information that is reasonably required to enter into a contract with you. We will not require you to provide consent for any unnecessary processing as a condition of entering into a contract with us.
Children's Protection
Brite Lotus is written for adults, and the newsletter is meant for readers 18 and over. The site itself is an educational resource and anyone is welcome to read it — students very much included.
Company does not knowingly collect, either online or offline, personal information from persons under the age of sixteen. The only way to give us personal information here is to fill in a form, so we ask that nobody under sixteen does.
If you are under 18, you may only use the Website with the permission of a parent or guardian, and your parent or guardian must read this privacy policy. If you, your parent, or your guardian believe you have conveyed information to the Website, contact the Privacy Officer to make sure it is deleted. In some circumstances the law may not require or permit us to delete the information. We will make every effort to delete anything you have provided; however, we cannot guarantee comprehensive removal.
Advertising and Sponsorship
Brite Lotus may carry sponsored placements, and promotes its own products and services — among them Low Tech Tags, The Tech Enlightenment Academy, and πLand. Affiliate links, described above, work the same way. Anything a third party has paid for is labelled Sponsored where you see it.
None of it is targeted using your personal information. There is no advertising network on this site, no advertising cookie, and nobody buys access to your details. What a sponsor gets is a placement on a page about a particular subject, chosen by us because the subject fits — not because of who you are, what you have read, or anything you have told us.
What may change
We may advertise our own Brite Lotus products in future on platforms such as Google or Meta, to people who already know us. That would work by one of those platforms placing a cookie or pixel on this site to recognize a returning visitor. We are telling you while it is still hypothetical rather than springing it on you later.
If that day comes it will be its own switch in the cookie notice — a third choice, off by default, loading nothing until you turn it on. Declining analytics, or ignoring the notice, means no advertising tools either. The notice will ask again when the choices change, so you will see it at the time rather than having to re-read this page to find out.
What will not change
We will not sell or rent the ability to reach you. No sponsor, advertiser, affiliate, or partner gets to target you because of something we learned about you here — and none of them receives your email address, which is covered in Email Marketing and is not a “for now” promise either.
We will not let another company use what it learns on this site to advertise to you somewhere else, and we will never hand your information to a data broker.
Links to Other Sites
Our Website may contain links to other websites we don’t control. Visiting those sites subjects you to their privacy policies. We are not responsible for how those websites handle your information. You assume full responsibility for the consequences of clicking on the links or visiting the websites.
Changes to this Privacy Policy
We update this policy when what we actually do changes. The date at the top of the page always tells you when it was last revised.
If we make a change that materially affects how we handle information we have already collected from you, we will email every subscriber before it takes effect, and post a notice on this page at the same time. Not a line buried in a newsletter — an email about the change itself.
Two kinds of change do not need that email. Smaller corrections — clearer wording, a fixed link, a renamed section — are made without notice and are reflected in the date above. And a change this policy has already described in advance, which you are then asked about directly before anything happens, is not sprung on anyone: you were told here first, and the cookie notice asks you at the time. The possible addition of advertising, described in Advertising and Sponsorship, is the one example of that on this page today.
We will not quietly start doing something with your information that this policy said we would not do.
